As a designer, the book has been a source of endless inspiration for me. It is an object of profound importance that highlights the seam between our fleeting thoughts and the physical world. It has been the boon for some of the greatest minds this earth has seen, and unlike VHS or floppy disk, it requires no special technology to use. That is why I chose to make this piece. It is an ode to one of the greatest technologies known to man.
And during no other period was the book more celebrated than during the Medieval period. Artistically, it is hard to compete with the elabortaley decorated pages of an Illuminated Manuscript, and in an age driven by data and dollars, it is difficult to imagine any human spending their time on something so trivial. What I hope to accomplish with this project is a sense of wonder for an ancient technology as well as a feeling of appreciation for the age that we live in.
